This article is the sixth edition of CryptoChasers' recommended high-quality Web3 educational resources - Design section.

There are various fields in design, and there are countless tutorials. I will recommend tutorials suitable for daily development of small projects, publishing on social media, or participating in creative activities for Web3 programmers or cryptocurrency players. After learning, they can be used as productivity tools.

How to Visualize Value#

A design fundamentals course created by well-known digital artist in the NFT field, Jack Butcher. This is the first course he created before becoming famous. As the name suggests, "How to Visualize Value" focuses on how to use design to communicate information, including principles of visualization, visual composition, design elements, tools, publishing works, social media dissemination, etc. The course is highly condensed and practical. Since the course requires payment, it is only recommended for creators who want to self-promote on social media.

Introduction to design systems#

The official tutorial released by Figma, the most popular design tool, 2 months ago. The tutorial covers the concept of design systems, necessary knowledge of UI design, and how to build design systems in Figma, which can be regarded as the best practice tutorial for modern UI design. This tutorial does not provide a step-by-step guide on how to use Figma. If you are completely unfamiliar with Figma, it is recommended to start with the official Figma for Beginners and the Figma Basics in How to Visualize Value.

Stable Diffusion#

First of all, the AIGC tool recommends Stable Diffusion (SD) instead of Midjourney (MJ) because SD has better control with ControlNet, more models, higher playability, and easier output for production (especially game materials). The disadvantage is that it requires configuring various parameters, but it is not difficult for programmers to understand.

There are many SD tutorials on Bilibili, and this series of videos is the best one I have seen on Bilibili. The creator has a set of methodological approaches to course production, and the course is concise, rich in content, and enjoyable to watch. In addition to the formal lessons, the cutting-edge SD techniques in the extra lessons are also worth watching.

Niji · Academy#

After mastering the use of SD, you need to further improve the quality of your work, and you can learn from this tutorial. Niji is an AI drawing platform mainly based on the anime style, similar to Midjourney. It has a course called Niji · Academy (which can be found in the lower left corner of the linked page), which is an experimental course that combines art fundamentals with artificial intelligence technology. The course focuses on aesthetics, and this is where the difference between AI drawing and human artists lies. Currently, only 3 lessons + 3 exercises have been updated, and there is a Chinese translation on the WeChat official account 「歸藏的 AI 工具箱」.

Summary#

Design is ultimately a practical discipline, and to become a professional designer, it requires more experience and project accumulation. As a programmer or cryptocurrency player, completing the above tutorials is enough to have design capabilities to meet various needs.
